Terms of Service

Last updated: May 30, 2026

1. Acceptance of these terms

By subscribing to, installing or using PDF Blue Security (the "Service"), including the desktop applications PDF Blue Control and PDF Blue Reader, you ("Customer") agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. What PDF Blue Security is — and is not

PDF Blue Security is a software platform that helps the Customer control and restrict access to PDF files. It includes mechanisms to:

  • Limit how many times a protected file can be opened.
  • Limit how many times a protected file can be printed.
  • Block virtual printers (including "Microsoft Print to PDF" and similar).
  • Allow physical printing only when the Customer authorizes it.
  • Restrict access by IP address.
  • Restrict access by number of machines.
  • Add dynamic watermarks identifying the reader.
  • Hide specific pages and unlock them later.
  • Block or unblock users and files at any time.
  • Expire users and documents.

PDF Blue Security makes unauthorized sharing harder and blocks or restricts many common unauthorized actions, but it does not — and cannot — absolutely prevent every form of content extraction. In particular, no digital system can prevent someone from photographing or filming a screen with an external camera. The Customer acknowledges this limitation and uses the Service with that understanding.

3. Subscription, billing and cancellation

The Service is provided as a monthly subscription. Subscriptions are billed in advance through Stripe. Subscription includes all features of PDF Blue Security; plans differ only in the maximum number of users and protected files allowed.

The Customer may cancel the subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Access to the Service, including PDF Blue Control and PDF Blue Reader, stops after the subscription is canceled or after payment fails beyond the grace period.

If a recurring payment fails, the Customer's account may be paused. Access is restored as soon as a successful payment is recorded.

4. Customer responsibilities

The Customer is solely responsible for the content of any PDF file they protect or distribute through the Service. The Customer agrees to use the Service only with content they own, have permission to distribute, or are otherwise legally entitled to share.

The Customer is responsible for the credentials of their account and the credentials of users they create. The Customer is responsible for keeping their contact email accurate so that password recovery and important notices can reach them.

5. Acceptable use

The Customer agrees not to use the Service:

  • To distribute content that violates any law, including but not limited to copyright, defamation, privacy and export control laws.
  • To distribute malware or harmful code disguised as a PDF.
  • To reverse engineer, tamper with, decompile or otherwise attempt to bypass the protection mechanisms of the Service.
  • To resell or sublicense the Service without written permission.

6. Availability and updates

We aim to keep the Service available 24/7 but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, hosting provider issues, or causes outside our reasonable control. We may update PDF Blue Control, PDF Blue Reader and the validation server from time to time, including security and feature updates.

7. Data we store

To deliver the Service we store the Customer's account information (company name, contact email, billing identifiers), users created by the Customer, metadata of protected files, and access logs of opens and prints. We process payment information through Stripe; we do not store complete card numbers. See our Privacy Policy for details.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will absolutely prevent every form of content extraction, copying or sharing.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service, regardless of the form of action, will not exceed the amount the Customer paid us for the Service in the twelve months immediately preceding the event giving rise to liability.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate the Service for any Customer in case of unpaid invoices, violation of these Terms, or abuse of the Service. Whenever possible, suspension is preferred over deletion of Customer data, so that the Customer's data and users can be recovered upon resolution.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms occasionally. Significant changes will be communicated by email or via the website. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
